HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

The ‘Huia Holistic’ clinic first opened in Arrowtown in 2009, before relocating to Marlborough in 2010 (with a six month old baby in tow!) Whatever your goal, the clinic offers many approaches under one roof, from a comprehensive prescription service to treatments, instruction and advice. We have developed a unique approach in my naturopathic practice embracing centuries-old traditions and a wide variety of other healing philosophies from all over the world with modern science and thought. Our aim is to help empower you to connect with your body, mind, intuition and environment by taking a proactive and positive approach to your health and wellness.

In terms of qualifications, Huia Crosby is a graduate from Otago University’s School of Physical Education, with a foundation in exercise prescription. She then continued her education in holistic healthcare through yoga studies, massage studies, naturopathy studies, herbal medicine studies, nutrition, detoxification, personal development courses, essential oils courses, pilates and childbirth education.

As a result of her diverse repertoire, she is able to treat many of today’s medical conditions without the side-effects of modern medicine.

She does however often work alongside conventional medical practitioners, or combine pharmaceutical treatment as needed.

She will refer to other practitioners where appropriate, to achieve the best possible health results, and is happy to accompany clients to doctor’s appointments should you wish.

THE CONSULTATION

During the hour and a half, we sit together and discuss your medical history, diet, supplements, level of exercise, and all of the little important issues which pop up and make you the unique person you are. I am able to educate you throughout this time together. It may be a good idea to bring a notebook or friend to take notes.

If possible please arrive makeup and nail polish free. Do not eat foods that will colour your tongue prior to our meeting. Do bring a list of prescription drugs and/or natural remedies that you may be taking. We will share knowledge and consider shifting the amounts of minerals and vitamins consumed and create an achievable treatment plan for you.

We are aiming to slowly shift habits and beliefs in diet, emotional self and moving the physical body. You have a large input in your treatment plan. Choices include herbal teas, tinctures, bath salts, pills or capsules, sprays, steams, oils, poultices and solid extracts. Diet and movement alongside lifestyle choices are incorporated. Essential Oils and Bach Flower Essences are often suggested too. A generous number of months are normal for effecting change in long-term chronic issues.
